Vera Wang Spring/Summer 2016 Video - New York

Noted for her organza and tulle-filled collections that exude romance, designer Vera Wang decided to head in a darker direction for spring, exploring the duality of women. A play on saint and sinner, Wang was drawn to Luis Buñuel’s 1967 French Film Belle de Jour, the protagonist living a controlled life while desiring sexual fantasy. Wang did just that this season, playing with high hemlines, transparency and urban tailoring, to evoke the same conflict within her girl. There were touches of sensuality everywhere, from the oversized men’s collared white shirt paired with high waisted black briefs, to a sheer bralet and sports bra that peaked from under a low cut sequin dress and white vest crop top. Although the designer stuck closely to a pallet of black and white, it was the exaggerated red pieces that tingled the senses. The opening crimson red, low cut trapeze dress, with a matching bandeau felt youthful and sexy, a standout among the line. Feathers added much needed texture when paired with smooth satins and discretely hinted at a woman’s boudoir. A collection brimming with sensual desire, Vera Wang’s Spring 2016 felt very current and now, appealing to the good girl gone bad.
