Oscar de la Renta Spring/Summer 2016 Video - New York

A calm reverence filled the room during Tuesday’s show, as the memory of the legendary Oscar de la Renta remained ever present in the minds of everyone. Almost a year after his passing, the company is slowly moving forward, with the newly instated Peter Copping at its helm. Many prominent industry influencers gathered once again in show of support and solidarity; as Copping debuted his first spring collection with the house. This season, Copping looked to Spain as a jumping point, fondly noting de la Renta’s affection for the country. Matador jackets and an abundance of flamenco style ruffles were found on skirt hems and a couple of full-length gowns. Red was the dominating color of the collection; a crimson halter dress in a bold eyelet, connected the influence and felt classic to the house. In reverence and memory to the designer, Copping created a red carnation print, de la Renta’s favorite flower, used on an asymmetrical tiered gown with a dramatic Chantilly lace, ruffled neckline that beautifully blended the two designers’ aesthetics into one. As the stunning show came to a close, a sigh of relief filled the room as the sophisticated woman Oscar de la Renta was still there, he was still there. Peter Copping will always cherish the designer who gave so much and with time will bring her to new heights through his own aesthetic, always celebrating femininity.
